Electromyography and Nerve Conductor VelocityOften used in conjunction with a Nerve Conductor Velocity test, Electromyography (EMG) is used to determine if a muscle weakness is a problem within the muscle or is caused by nerves that communicate with the muscle. If the muscle is without its nerve supply, it demonstrates a different electrical pattern than a muscle with a normal nerve supply. Abnormalities discovered by an EMG test may be the result of one of several diseases or dysfunctions. A Nerve Conductor Velocity test stimulates nerves and records the activity of the nerves themselves rather than the muscles they contract. back to the Neurology Service |
